Sault Ste. Marie is a city in Northern Ontario that sits on the north side of the St Marys River directly opposite Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The western edge of the city is on Lake Superior, which made it an important trading post in the past. Today, its harbour is used for small recreational boats and its main economic force is in the steel industry. Sault Ste. Marie is the third largest city in Northern Ontario and the main seat of the Algoma District. It is a city of culture, history and beauty, and makes for a great place to call home.

The lake, river and surrounding forest makes Sault Ste. Marie an exceptionally beautiful place. It is also a cultural melting pot, with several ethnicities standing out, including Italian, French, Nordic, Chinese and Native Canadian. In fact, the city is home to two First Nations reserves. It is also a fun city with lots to do, though Downtown Sault Ste. Marie is the most lively and trendy area of the city. Downtown Sault Ste. Marie sits right along the river and is home to numerous shops, restaurants and bars, as well as Casino Sault Ste. Marie, the Art Gallery of Algoma and the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre.

Having a history of French immigrants, it should be of no surprise that there are a few French-speaking schools in Sault Ste. Marie. Still, the majority of schools in the city are Anglophone, including Sault College and Algoma University. It is also home to the Ontario Forest Research Institute. In short, it is quite a family-friendly city, which is another reason why it is such a great place to live. As well, it is a very safe city with very little crime. Sault Ste. Marie is a great city for walking, especially along the waterfront in the downtown area. Any Sault Ste. Marie resident will say to walk around this area to see historic buildings like the administration building, the powerhouse, the blacksmith shop and superintendent's residence.

There are eight bus routes that travel through the city, all of which use the terminus at Dennis Street Terminal in Downtown Sault Ste. Marie. Still, many residents prefer to drive themselves around, especially considering that there is very little traffic. Basically, Sault Ste. Marie is a big city with a small town atmosphere. It hosts some great events, like the Bon Soo winter carnival, the Algoma Fall Festival and the three-day Rotaryfest. Other things listed in a Sault Ste. Marie city guide include Bondar Park, the Kiwanis Community Theatre and the Walk of Fame. Inductees along the Queen Street strip include NHL player Phil Esposito, speed skater Kevin Scott, artist Ken Danby and the musical band Treble Charger.
