My first trip to Utah was an unforgettable adventure. I arrived in Salt Lake City International Airport and then took a rental car. I got on Interstate-15 and explored Salt Lake County. The city center of Sandy is only about 30 minutes from Salt Lake City. It was one of the most ...Read More
scenic drives I've ever experienced. The valley that's between the Wasatch Mountains, the Great Salt Lake, and Oquirrh Mountains is absolutely picturesque. I was fascinated by the grid like planned suburban communities in this area.
One particular city that caught my eye was Sandy. As I was heading southbound on I-87 and approached exit 293, I noticed the South Towne Center and immediately visited this shopping mall. I saw the anchor stores such as Dillard's and Macy's and had high expectations. With well over 100 stores, this had to be one of the premier shopping destinations in the Salt Lake Metropolitan Area.
I spent a few hours at the mall and did most my shopping for that trip. With more than 15 eateries to choose from, I decided to try something unique and ate some seafood at the McGrath's Fish House. I skipped chain restaurants such as Subway and Chili's, which I've had plenty of back home in New York. It was a good decision, the food at the Fish House was perfect.
After that, I drove through Sandy's neighborhoods and was surprised at the large network of mostly residential communities and dozens of parks and several golf courses such as Willow Creek Country Club. I finished my day at Falcon Park, where I sat back and watched some locals play tennis. I also had some breathtaking views of the gorgeous Wasatch Mountains from the park. Overall, Sandy was a great find and I would return for sure.
