Mira Mesa Is a Great Place To Live... User Rating 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 10, 2014) I have lived in Mira Mesa for ten years. I moved to Mira Mesa from Twenty-nine Palms, California. Mira Mesa is near San Diego. It is bordered by Interstate 15, Interstate 805 on the Los Penasquitos Canyon, and the Marine Corps Air Station Mira Mar.

Mira Mesa has a population of
...Read More about 75,000 people and a disproportionately large young professionals (25-34) population. There is a healthy ethnic mix here, with Asians being the most prominent ethnicity. People generally speak English at home.

Founded in the mid-1950s as a support area for the Naval Air Station, Mira Mesa has burgeoned into the largest community in the San Diego area.

The community is mostly residential and many residents commute to work in the San Diego metro area.

Mira Mesa is basically a home owners market. 59 per cent of residents own their homes. Property values are high and still on the rise. Only 41 per cent of residents choose to rent.

There is a high income per capita here. The median income is about $65,000 per year, and the cost of living is high. On the other hand, the weather is great, the schools are good, the housing market is stable, the crime rate is low, and amenities such as grocery stores, shopping outlets and parks are plentiful.

The community has both commercial and residential zones and there are many shopping and recreational opportunities as well as businesses with technology facilities. There is a broad array of ethnic restaurants, as well as traditional dining facilities.

Mira Mesa has eight community parks, centers for teenagers and senior citizens, an ice skating rink, and a multi-plex movie theater.

There are five elementary schools in the area, as well as two middle schools, a high school and a junior college. The schools have an excellent reputation.

San Diego Transit and the Metropolitan Transit System provide public transportation for the Mira Mesa area.

Fire and emergency services are provided by the San Diego Fire Department.

I love the history and culture of the neighborhood, the weather and the scenery, and the rich ethnic mix. This is a friendly community, and there is room for everyone! Read Less
