ventura, and underrated city 4 rating By Anonymous ( May 14, 2020) Ventura's downtown is a total tourist town. the downtown has activities 24/7, the Channel Islands are an hour away. one problem however Is the crime. I've lived here my whole life so I know where the good and bad parts are. basically, avoid Old town saticoy, Cabrillo village (bot ...Read More h have gangs which are major rivals, so gang violence occurs with that) avoid Montalvo, and avoid the neighborhoods around Ventura avenue, especially Ramona st. I have been down these areas before at day and night and have never experienced any problems there, but that doesn't mean its not safe. typically its fine to go to these spots around daytime and sometimes sunset, but being there at night is a whole different story. Part of the reason the violence here can get so bad at times is because the gang violence in Oxnard and Santa Paula sort of radiates off onto Ventura. but if you're a tourist then you should be fine and won't come by any trouble unless you go out looking for it. if your looking for something else to do thats not in downtown, you got the harbor village, but its best to go there during events, otherwise the harbor is a complete ghost town. theres also pierpont. theres a "gang" problem there too but its not hoodrats and gangsters, but instead its mainly just aggressive surfers. I've never experienced anything bad in pierpont so if you go there you will be fine. theres also a waterpark on Kimball road but its nothing huge like hurricane harbor. you also got the pacific view mall, which is not a bad mall but the security there are dicks. you don't wanna go there on the weekdays, specifically around 2:00-4:00 as the kids from the middle school across the street hang out there. if your looking for something outdoorsy then you got two options, the Channel Islands or the Los Padres National Forest. Channel Islands rangers are very strict about littering, but they kinda have to be. The los padres has its well known spots and it's very unknown spots too. If your looking for a quick and easy hike that pays off, then go to rose valley where u can hike to either the falls or the Piedra Blancas, these HUGE boulders the size of football stadiums. If you want something hard then try Gridley trail or Pratt. theres something for everyone in Ventura. Read Less
Ventura, CA - A Fun and Upbeat City 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 24, 2010) I visited Ventura about two months ago and had a great time in the city. I spent a two week vacation in California and decided to meet up with a few friends for 7 days in Ventura. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza, right on the water, and it was amazing. The scenery in the city of Ve ...Read More ntura is breathtaking, to put it simply.

I hear that jobs are easy to come by in Ventura as well. For some reason, Ventura is often stereotyped as an area with high crime, but that is simply not true. I'm not sure what the crime statistics are, but I felt very safe throughout my visit to Ventura.

Downtown Ventura offers some great cultural attractions, things to do, artists, and shopping. I bought some awesome Birkenstocks at "Footprints of Ventura." I also ate at quite a few great restaurants while in Ventura. Hush Restaurant & Lounge is a great place to chill out. I also really liked the Bombay Bar & Grille for a great burger and beer. My favorite time in Ventura was simply going out to eat with friends, spending a few hours at the beach, and then hitting up some nightclubs in the area to meet resident locals of California, and specifically, Ventura.

Overall, I'd recommend Ventura to anyone as a great cultural city and community. Read Less

Compare San Buenaventura (Ventura), CA Livability

      vs

      San Buenaventura (Ventura), CA

If you drive south on Highway 101 down the coast of the Pacific, eventually, you will reach Ventura, California. This charming little city of just over 100,000 people sits right on the Pacific Ocean. It has a small-town feel with big town commodities. Sprawling inland are many friendly neighborhoods that have a very suburban feel.

Ventura is known for having excellent public schools and quiet neighborhoods for families to grow up. The demographics show that the average education level for residents of Ventura is slightly higher than the national average. Additionally, the median income in Ventura California is a fair margin above the national average. Some of the most common jobs in the city are in healthcare. One downside is that rent and home prices are considerably higher than they are in the rest of the United States. That is because it’s California, and it’s on the ocean, and the quality of living is high.

This stretch of the coast is one of the best places to watch for whales as they make their annual migration from Mexico’s warm waters to the Arctic Ocean. Additionally, this area is one of the best places in California to go surfing. Outside the city is Arroyo Verde Park, which provides miles of scenic hiking trails as well as amenities like barbecue grills for those late summer parties with friends. If you like going to the farmers market, you’re in luck. Ventura is known as one of the main places in California for agriculture. Strawberries are its main cash crop, but many farmers grow oranges, avocados, and celery. If you like camping, there are many RV campsites along the Pacific Ocean. The campsites fill up quickly as one would expect, but if you get there early enough, you can spend the night in starlight with the sound of the waves crashing on the sand.

If you’ve been to a high-end outdoor store, chances are you’ve seen Patagonia clothing on the racks. Patagonia focuses on producing eco-friendly clothing that will last for many years. The clothing company has its headquarters in Ventura, California. It’s another promising place for people to work.

In review, Ventura California is a small city just north of Los Angeles on Highway 101. The housing costs are high, but that is just part of living in California. One can go from doing things that they would do in a big city, to walking along a lonely beach in a state park on the same day. The city has a great art scene, and plenty of excellent restaurants and breweries. In Ventura, you get an even mix of Pacific Ocean vibes, suburban lifestyle, and opportunities to pursue your career.
