As a lifelong resident of Rocky Mount, I am continually surprised by the seamless way that our pockets of high culture blend in with our homey, low-key lifestyle. Our ...Read More Arts Center at the Imperial Centre focuses on bringing arts to residents and tourists alike, with an emphasis on education. The gallery exhibits are on par with those found in more metropolitan areas, but they lack the stress and crowds inherent to stereotypically tourist-friendly cities. The Arts Center makes an effort to feature regional artists whose talent would otherwise go unappreciated. The gallery's approach to artists mirrors our attitude toward others. Here in Rocky Mount, we believe in nurturing people and encouraging them to flourish in their own unique ways. This approach to life pervades all aspects of this comfortable yet contemporary city.

Those who live in Rocky Mount know that the true asset of this city is its residents. Our residential neighborhoods are tourist attractions in themselves. Our historic, rustic buildings are a perfect window into America's past. Rocky Mount is not a shopping and clubbing destination. It is the sort of place one would visit for a quiet weekend of country living punctuated by excursions into our art scene. My favorite spot in the city is City Lake, a beautiful site for exercise and relaxation. The gazebo and bridge are artfully constructed. The trees and wildlife around the lake make the whole area feel like a haven from the hubbub of everyday life. The best kind of travel leaves one with the experience of having explored different lifestyles, and Rocky Mount, North Carolina, provides that for the adventurous and unconventional traveler.
