Friendly small town User Rating 5 rating By Reemie ( Apr 07, 2018) My husband and I moved here after living in a large suburb. Richmond is a small town, 2.8-ish square miles that is a mix of small neighborhoods as well as farmland. It has one elementary, one junior high, and one high school which was one of the reasons we moved. Boy, did it pay ...Read More off because our sons benefit from a small, close social circle. Richmond has historical buildings that are still in operation as barber shops, salons, candy store, antique shops etc, and everything is within walking distance. There is a local police station as well as the Macomb County Sheriff's Department and ALSO the Michigan State Police due to the proximity to I-94.The good news: The prime reason we chose Richmond is because of its low crime rate. I am a law enforcement officer and have known about this for years. It is over 15 miles or so from any city bus stop, so crime is not going to be deposited the neighborhood. It's over 40 miles from Detroit and about 25 miles from Port Huron so it's far enough away from everyone that it's not the first city on the list to victimize. Also, the town is within walking distance from pretty much everywhere and it has very nice family restaurants. It has a large Kroger grocery store, farm supply stores, dollar stores, etc, plus fast food chains. The bad news: if you are looking for diverse population, look elsewhere. Decent houses (single family neighborhoods) range from $250,000 to $575,000. If you are looking for an exciting nightlife, look elsewhere, unless you consider bonfires and beer a good time. If you are looking for 5 star fancy restaurants, look elsewhere. This is a country town, and I couldn't be happier. Read Less
