Back Then It Was Nothing But Scorpions And Sagebrush! User Rating 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 06, 2012) Four decades ago me and three other friends, purchased and subdivided a five acre plot; each of us taking an acre and a quarter. It was located on FanFol Drive about a quarter mile from the corner of where Northern Avenue ended (now Highway 51) and Shea Blvd started which took yo ...Read More u all the way east to Scottsdale Road. Back then housing and shopping was not only scarce, but pretty much non-existent, and the population of Phoenix was approximately 200,000, if that. Paradise Valley had an entire population of about three thousand, (unless you count the rattlesnakes and scorpions) and was vacant of most every convenience you could think of with the closest high school several miles to the north on Bell Road. Oh my, how the times have changed.
Even though I have moved north to the cooler climate of Prescott our custom built homes are still there and still worth hundreds of thousands of dollars more that it cost to originally construct. I still own my home, visit often, and rent to family members.

Fast forward to 2012, and you find Paradise Valley a small, affluent community of over 16,000 families, and loaded to the gills with restaurants, bars, grills and Pubs, nightlife, and an overflow of major shopping malls and strip-centers to fulfill your every need and desire. Over a dozen fancy and expensive resorts dot the landscape of Paradise Valley, including, but not limited to the renovated "old kid" on the block, Mountain Shadow resort which for years has been the premier master-planned hotel, spa, and golf course choice in Paradise Valley. Actually, when you venture down Lincoln Drive or Shea Blvd heading east, the magnificent resorts are like ants at a lakeside picnic.

Being a long-time property owner of a Paradise Valley home, new annuitants of the area who consider a home purchase or just a winter visit, will find that living in the desert doesn't get any better than Paradise Valley. Here are my ratings. Read Less
