I lived in the North Mountain Phoenix, AZ area for over twenty years. Every day, I woke up and admired the beautiful red clay earth against the wide blue sky as a few clouds floated by. Even when it is hot there, it is dry enough to be comfortable. The greatest pleasure I took fr ...Read More
om this area was my early morning walks. As a freelance journalist, I work according to the schedule my body makes for me, and I was frequently awake to see the beautiful local sunrise, a burst of gorgeous colors. I loved to stroll the neighborhood casually as the sun peaked over the horizon, smiling politely at neighbors out for jogs or walking their dogs. No verbal communication was necessary. We all knew that we shared in the spirit of that community and that beautiful place.
There are restaurants in the area to please absolutely every palate, and a nightlife that rivals even the biggest of cities. There are plenty of bars, clubs and pool halls to choose from if you wish to find entertainment for the evening. The culture is typical of the relaxed and laid back Southwest. Everyone is welcome, and there is no need for a fuss. I can honestly say that the only thing I feel was lacking in my neighborhood is direct shopping. I have to drive at least fifteen minutes in order to access a grocery store, a stark change from where I grew up and where I live now. I relocated to North Mountain Phoenix from the Northeast when I was a teenager, and always had immediate access to shopping prior to this. I loved my neighborhood and community in Arizona and would recommend it to anyone considering relocating to a Phoenix based area.
