South of the city but still relevant.

Park Forest, Illinois is one of Chicago's farther south suburbs. It is home to the renowned Governors State University despite being in the same city that has a declining public school system. Park Forest has seen a rise in crime in recent years, and is steadily becoming in decline economically as well. The housing market is not very good with property taxes and home prices rising substantially, to the point of where homeowners are once again starting to move out of the city and the houses are being rented to lower-income families.

The shopping, dining and overall entertainment scene in Park Forest is virtually nonexistent with most restaurants being franchises and there being no mall or really any fun place to go. With that being said, Park Forest is close to other attractions in the Chicago region, so entertainment is within reach. You'll just have to drive a little while.

Overall, Park Forest has seen better days. In it's current condition, Park Forest would be a good option for those on a budget looking for cheaper rentals and not looking to buy. If you're looking to settle down and raise a family, you may want to search elsewhere in Chicago's other more stable suburbs.
