the buses cover a fairly large area.
There's a lot of places to go shopping in Owings Mills, especially if you prefer to shop at local businesses. You can probably find a farmers market or two in the summer as well. The northern part of the city has a few different shopping centers and is probably the best area in Owings Mills.
As far as jobs go, it's got a pretty good economy and you shouldn't have too much difficulty finding a job. Baltimore is close and there are a lot of financial and healthcare companies that always seem to be hiring. Overall, it's a good city if you like to stay busy.
