Oakton: An Upscale City in Virginia 5 rating By Anonymous ( May 14, 2018) I've been in Oakton going on five years, and it is a fantastic choice. It's close enough to Mclean and Washington that there are a lot of opportunities for education and business available, especially if you work in politics or another government-type job.

It's expensive to live ...Read More in Oakton, but the tradeoff is that it has a high quality of living. If you have children, the school systems rank very highly. You'll need your own vehicle to get around the city efficiently since the only public transportation is a bus service that covers only the downtown area. The only other big thing Oakton is lacking in is restaurants, but it's not a dealbreaker.

In my opinion, the best area in Oakton is the public library. It's a beautiful building and it's close to the cities main shopping center. The Oakton Shopping Center has most of the things you'll need day-to-day, including a big grocery store. Overall, Oakton is a beautiful city to raise a family or to focus on your career. Read Less
