North Charleston, SC - Relax and Breathe User Rating 5 rating By Anonymous ( Jul 27, 2010) My husband and I decide to take a different route with our vacation this year and go somewhere that we could relax and breath for a change. Instead of the usual get there and run, run, run to see and do everything we could in the short time that we have each year. A friend of my ...Read More Mothers suggested North Charleston, South Carolina, her birth place. So I got on the web and sure enough, it seemed perfect!

During our stay in North Charleston we stayed at the Cabell House, Bed and Breakfast which is absolutely gorgeous. On our fist day in North Charleston we explored the city on foot. Visiting several art galleries and antique shops. We had lunch Poogan's Porch a charming restaurant. We had Fried Alligator and fried green tomatoes. Talk about Southern Comfort!

After a day of exploring the city we were ready to relax, but still too excited to sleep. So we decided to go out for drinks. Someone recommended the Habana Club, so we gave it a try. It was all that he had said and more. The service was excellent and the drinks splendid. The Habana Club was exactly what we needed. Read Less

      North Charleston, SC

North Charleston is a beautiful city located on the coast of South Carolina. Bordered on the northeast and south-east by the Cooper and Ashely rivers, it is the third-largest city in the state behind its next-door neighbor, Charleston. With a population of over 100,000 and its proximity to Charleston, its residents have access to all the modern amenities and recreation of a more populous city without feeling crowded. It also has a lower than average cost of living compared to other U.S. Cities, and many neighborhoods well-suited to family life.

Just a few miles from the beach and bordered on two sides by rivers that feed into the Atlantic Ocean, this city is great place to live if you love the natural world. While the nature surrounding the city is beautiful, North Charleston is also very conscious of protecting the natural environment within the city as well. Like many beautiful Southern cities, it is well-populated with trees and other beautiful plants. The city has many regulations in place to protect these trees that line almost every street in the city, and clear-cutting for building is not allowed. The city is also very intentional about how they take care of the river-front areas on both the Southeast and Northeast parts of the city.

However, it is not only beautiful because of the nature in and around it. North Charleston is also well-known for its history. Originally a part of Charleston, SC, the early settlers developed plantations here in the 1600 and 1700s. Many old plantation homes can still be seen, and some even allow tourists to come learn about plantation life. Many of the conservation efforts centered on the river-front areas of the city are designed to protect the historic plantations and sites located there. There are also museums and monuments that allow people and families to learn about the region's history.

It is North Charleston's more recent history that has helped it become well-loved by its current residents. Originally the city was home to Charleston Navy Base, which was economically important to the region. When it shut down following the end of the Cold War, North Charleston forged ahead to form a more sustainable economy and community. Now home to the Charleston airport and a large Boeing Assembly and Delivery site, aviation is one of the biggest reasons for North Charleston's strong economy and diverse population.

If you are looking for a beautiful, friendly community, North Charleston is a wonderful place to live. Southern hospitality is alive and well here, and finding a place to live that suits your needs shouldn't be too difficult with the many quiet neighborhoods located throughout the city. You will feel welcomed and loved by both the people and natural world all around you.
