I lived in New York City most of my adult life and in Midtown New York for approximately 12 years. Most New Yorker's generally refer to this area as Midtown Manhattan. The actual city of New York consists of 5 boroughs which are the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Manhattan. The Midtown area is between 34th Street to about 49th Street and is west of 6th avenue and east of 10th avenue. Manhattan has changed dramatically since I lived there. 42nd street was infested with drugs and a lot of dubious activity twenty-four hours a day. Then In the 1990s, the entire borough of Manhattan underwent major changes. There were vital neighborhood restorations underway. The streets of midtown were cleaned up and replaced with establishments that would attract tourists. It was revamped into a tourist friendly environment with lights that rival Las Vegas. Times Square is famous for lighting up the night sky with its flashy billboards. Broadway is just a few blocks in either direction. Broadway is the host to great theatre and attracts people from all over the world. Living here you can almost feel the pulsing and vibrancy of the city. If you don't mind crowds, this is a perfect place for you. Midtown is always on. It never sleeps. Living here you will not be at a loss for something to do. Within walking distance you can find comedy clubs, jazz clubs and if you feel like dancing, there's an array of clubs to suit your dancing mood. Restaurant row is close by and you can choose from tantalizing eclectic foods that are sure to please the most discriminating palate. Midtown Manhattan is definitely not for the faint of heart. If you like peace and quiet and tree lined streets, this is not the place for you. On the other hand, if you thrive in an environment that is constantly moving with rich cultural diversity, midtown is definitely the place for you. This area of Manhattan is not as residential as other areas. The rents here are astronomical. Most people come to Midtown to indulge in the excitement of the area and what it has to offer.
