      Howard Beach Spring 2019

The sun is shining brightly and the seagulls squawking. Howard Beach is an Oasis of peacefulness and quiet.
Amenities are amazing . Commercial chains stores such as Chipotle and Planet Fitness have invested in the neighborhood.
Crime is negligible thanks to our constant police patrol. Negligible Night Life. Hard working mix of young Blue Collar,White collar and retired families. Cordial and friendly. Caring Community Board. Access to Parkway and Expressways are a few short minutes. Property Taxes in New York have have risen. Example: $850,000 for a move in ready home and $ 7,000 property taxes. A fixer upper will run you $600,000 and $5,000 in property taxes. Flood Insurance is advised running from as low as $500 to upwards of
$5,000 per year depending on property history of claims. Howard Beach Consists of a New Side and Old Side. The New Side has note worthy mansions that are just spectacular with manicured lawns and the Old Side has a more of a quaint Fisherman's appeal with many water views and homes on the inlet and maritime access to Jamaica Bay. There are Videos on Youtube to entertain you
with a short drive through the neighborhood. A great place to raise a family or Retire.

      Howard Beach 2018 Gorgeous.................

It's been a year since my last update. I will be commenting on the area surrounded by the Belt Parkway and Jamaica Bay. I am not including Hamilton Beach. Most locals refer to these boundaries as New Howard and Old Howard Beach rather than the zipcode entirety .( Ever here that old expression: Don't crap where you sleep? ). Just about all the homes have been beautified by neighborhood and local contractors. I can only add how much more beautiful the neighborhood has become. Crossbay Blvd. now has a bus only lane to speed up service for those depending on mass transit. The A train at Coleman Square is a 45 min ride into midtown. A 23 million dollar project to improve Jamaica Bay ( Charles Park ) by the Rockaway Wastewater Treatment Plant has been granted to improve the overall ecological health of the bay as the DEP priority. There is ongoing cnstruction projects of local businesses along Crossbay Blvd. The crime is negligible within these boundaries. Unfortunately most if not all crimes attributed to the neighborhood are beyond the surroundings mentioned and crimes occurring within surroundings are committed in the shopping district along Crossbay Blvd. by those passing by and not living here. The winters were cold for 2018 similar to that of Northern Virginia, upper Maryland and Central Pa. The summers are a paradise. I have only had to use the A.C. 2 days at most since the ocean and bay coastal breeze keeps the area comfortable. The home prices have spiked as the neighborhood appears newer which each day that passes. Great place to safely raise a family or retire.

Howard Beach policing is top notch!

Let me confirm an opinion written earlier of how this community comes together in time of crisis. Tuesday April 11,2017 a man robbed a bank in Howard Beach. Now we all know that crime can happen any place and at any time but lightning fast apprehending of a criminal is just an example of excellence. Although exact details can not be disclosed, one can state that remarkable policing , neighborhood surveillance and community efforts keeps most if not all crimes in Howard Beach at bay. There are a number of neighborhoods that are safe and Howard Beach is just one stunning example.

Howard Beach Diamond in the Ruff

HowardBeach in my humble opinion is a neighborhood which is geographically isolated by The Belt Parkway, Jamaica Bay and John F.Kennedy International Airport. I am exluding the boundaries beyond the belt and also Hamilton Beach. A tight middle upper middle class family oriented community. Mostly Italian. Four public schools but I prefer a private school education. Catholic,,Lutheran, and Synagouges houses of worship. Based on census reports ( forgive any inaccuracies) 85% European, 11% Latino ,3% Asian, 1% African American .Average age 43-46 with 3 member per family average. Average reported income of 68-97k per year. Suburban community which has grown from 2010 census of 28,000 to 30,000 people with a 6% growth. 20% retirees. Average homes prices are 600k and up with 4k to 7k in taxes. Folks lookout for one another. Plenty mounted surveillance and police presence keep and has always kept the neighborhood ultra safe. Plenty of local ammenities within walking distance or 5 minute drive. Transportation MTA Transit. A train or Bus to Manhattan 45 min. Charles Federal Park is beautiful with Oceanbay views,Jogging path, walks on the sand, plenty dog lovers, and listening to wild birds and seagulls. Absolutely minimal night life. Plenty of dining. Excellent shopping. Recent storm Sandy destroyed many homes and businesses. Rebuilding has beautified the community. A perfect family neighborhood. 2016 reported there has been a shift in neighborhood population as younger people are moving more into super expensive Brooklyn and families are now expanding into more affordable Queens. Howard Beach is one of those beautiful ,safe, affordable communities loaded with ammenities and a great respect for its' cultural roots.
