A shrinking tax base has caused chronic funding gaps for. Nutritional programs face tight budgets, outreach is understaffed, and senior/disabled housing is often poorly maintained. a complete lack of transportation infrastructure (no taxis, rare Ubers), and it becomes an incredibly tough place to age or live comfortably.

Macomb was incorporated in 1830 and has a total area of 11.32 square miles. The town is named after General Alexander Macomb of the War of 1812. There were numerous military tracts given to veterans here.

You might lik ...Read More e the Harry Mussatto Golf Course for 18 holes. Heritage Days is the local Macomb celebration. The town also has a Jazz Festival, Festival of Trees and Dad's Weekend Fishing Tournament. The employment and housing are sub-par in Macomb.

Macomb seems to be a college town. Many activities are centered around the Western Illinois University (WIU). These include sporting events, homecoming and social activities. You could also probably use the local WIU library for research purposes. The WIU professors add some culture. The crime rate is average. The amenities and cost of living are good though. Larry A's Pizza and The Old Dairy are popular eating establishments of Macomb, Illinois. Read Less
