I moved and bought a house in Mableton in 2007. There are some great things about Mableton and there are some not so great things about Mableton. I got a good deal on a renovated house. The good: The location is great. For what Mableton lacks in restaurants, shopping, and ac ...Read More
tivities, I can get to great activities in 15-20 minutes. Downtown is less than 10 miles. We often go to Atlantic Station or the Cumberland area to shop or go to a movie. It's a quiet area where people keep to themselves. The bad: same as good, people keep to themselves. You really need to get involved in a civic, church, or other interest group to meet anyone at all. I do not have kids so the schools are not a concern, but the public schools get really low marks. There are some decent parks nearby - Sweetwater State park and the Sliver Comet trail. Dining - there are a few good restaurants but there's a lot of standard chain restaurants. Again the good news is we can go downtown, Inman park, Vinings, or Marietta which are pretty close by. We are staying here until hopefully the housing market picks up but it has been stagnant for a really long time. The city really needs some strong civic leaders and movement to give it more sense of community. It would also really help the home values, and just make it more fun overall. Unfortunately a lot of my neighbors are not concerned with investing in the community; maybe because they are renting. There is project called Riverline that we are hoping we will inject some life. Still on the plus side I think at worst it will slowly improve over the next decade, but hoping the Riverline project increases it quite a bit.
