Compare Longueuil, QC Livability

      vs

      Longueuil, QC

Longueuil lies on the southern shore of the St. Lawrence River, right across from Montreal. As one of the largest suburbs of Montreal, the area is popular with young professionals who work downtown. Although most residents are French speaking Canadians, Longueuil has a sizeable immigrant popular with residents from Latin America, the Middle East and East Asia make for a vibrant, multicultural community. Our Longueuil Livability guide will take you through the best of what the city offers, from neighbourhoods, family life to popular recreational activities.

As most properties in Longueuil are post war detached homes, the suburb is also a popular option for new families, especially those with young children, who benefit from the number of Francophone and Anglophones schools Longueil offers. Most residents make the twenty minute daily commute to work in Montreal as rents in Longueil are significantly lower than in Montreal. Additionally, a big plus of Longueil is that it offers all the perks of a metropolitan lifestyle within the tranquillity of the suburbs. The city is divided into three boroughs – Le Vieux-Longueuil, Saint-Hubert and Greenfield Park. Reseau de transpert de Longueuil provides bus and metro services to residents of the suburb and a number of shared taxi services are also an inexpensive way to get around. Additionally, Longueil offers short ferry rides directly to charming Old Montreal, where residents love to spend weekend evenings amidst old cobblestoned streets lined with characteristic 17th- 19th century buildings and grand French restaurants pervaded by the vibrant atmosphere of the riverfront Old Port.

Within Longueil, head to Saint Charles Street for the many trendy bars and restaurants the area is popular for. In July, this area also hosts the Longueuil International Percussion Festival. Any Longueuil guide will recommend that book lovers visit Zeeba Books, a bilingual bookstore where you can relax and read as you drink your coffee. The three nature parks in Longueuil – Parc Marie-Victorin, Parc Michel-Chartrand and Parc de la Cite are also popular spots to spend the weekends, particularly for family picnics during the summer.
