I have lived here in Lansing, Illinois for a few years now. It may not be the absolute best place to live, but it is definitely not the most pleasant place to live. All in all it is alright, to say the least.

Total crimes are 184% higher than Illinois. Crime, however, is closely followed by education and employment, too. The high school graduation percentage is only 3% higher than the state's and the average household income is 15% lower than Illinois.
We do have plenty of public transit, which can be a lifesaver. There's also plenty to do; we have plenty of parks and shopping centers, and many places to go out for a bite to eat. We even have a library, a few gyms, and a couple of coffee shops, too. So it is not all bad here, just I would not recommend moving here unless you are already living in a worse place than this.
