Langley is a very strange place the majority of people will not like living here User Rating 2.5 rating By Anonymous ( Oct 14, 2018) Great place to visit especially in the summer . However the best advice I can give is rent before you buy you are statically more likely to want to get away from here as soon as you can once you learn what only people who live here can. Like I said its a VERY strange place. Langl ...Read More ey is a retirement community as the average age is just over 59 years yet if feels like an old folks home. Crime is low however strangely drug and alcohol abuse is rampant yet its not noticeable. There is a lack of law enforcement officers the addicts find appealing. There is a serious lack of national chain stores caused by the local government that results in much higher cost of living. Heterosexual people are the minority around here. Between homosexuals by gender females far outnumber the males. There are a lot of very tall trees that cause hours of stress during wind, snow and the occasional ice storm that one might fall and crush you to death. Most of the people are in families that have lived here for generations. Most people who move here move away in just a few years some as soon as they possibly can.The (2) ferry boats are too few too small and too slow and over priced as all government services are. Besides dive bars there is ZERO night life. Just about everything but gas stations and the bars close by 9. NOTHING is open 24 hours I can think of. To think the Ferry is no big deal it is a very big deal. It gets very stressful and annoying after the excitement wears down. The local stores especially the grocery stores and gas station gas prices are very overpriced and its worth it to do weekly trips to Oak Harbor for your shopping if one can break a habit of living on empty and overall Just In Time purchasing. There is a lot of things you can't get here but can easily in a big city or town, the things that you can get here are almost always very overpriced. Mail ordering is recommended if you have the patience. Langley people are very strange. Its so strange people who live or once lived here and don't like it can't put to words just how and why its so strange. I have been thanked for this advice may times by people who have rented before buying but didn't buy and moved away and some people have wished they got this advice before they bought. Langley does have a very high property turnover despite the large amount of elderly people who die. Read Less
