Its close proximity to the Kona International Airport also affords residents diverse career options in the aviation industry.

The best areas in Kalaoa are the nearby beaches. Wawaloli Beach and Kua Bay Beach Park are two of the most scenic and tranquil beaches in the state. Offering plentiful opportunities for outdoor recreation and adventure, there is no chance of being bored in Kalaoa. The Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park boasts the historic Honokōhau Settlement and the recently restored Māmalahoa Trail.
