Jacksonville Illinois: Athens of the Midwest 4 rating By Anonymous ( May 10, 2018) My family and I welcomed living in Jacksonville Illinois, the city that is called the Athens of the Midwest due to its academic presence. Jacksonville is a city in Morgan County, 35 miles of Springfield. The town has specialty schools such as the Illinois School for the Visually ...Read More Blind, as well as the Illinois School for the Deaf. Jacksonville also houses three other colleges within close proximity. Jacksonville is an industrial town with an abundance of employment opportunity. Some local major manufacturers are CCK Automation, ILMO Products, and Nestle USA to name a few.

The cost of living in Jacksonville was always good. Housing and rent are lower than the national average. I really love that Jacksonville has ample attractions and recreation. The district offers arts, historical tours, parks and lakes, music festivals, lake trails, and upscale dining and shopping. One of the best areas in Jacksonville Illinois surrounds Morton Street. This is a central area in the city. Amenities there are plentiful, with a multitude of things to do for the entire family. Read Less
