Welcome to Indio, California User Rating 4 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 26, 2012) You'll love visiting Indio, California, nicknamed "The City of Festivals." Located in Riverside County, it's only 26 miles east of Palm Springs, 70 miles east of Riverside and 125 miles east of Los Angeles. One of our city's best features is the climate. Since we are surrounded b ...Read More y three different mountain ranges, we have very warm winters with little rainfall. So if you like sunshine, this is the place to be! I moved to Indo from Los Angeles and love living here in a smaller town with the palm trees lining our downtown streets and mountains in the background. My favorite restaurant is Jackalope Ranch, offering the best tamales you've ever had. It's a lodge with beautiful landscaping, with an indoor saloon. The restaurant specializes in California Ranch cuisine and is reasonably priced.

Another reason I love living here is for the festivals. Our most popular festival is the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, a three-day music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club the last week of April. You'll hear all sorts of music, from rock, hip hop and electronic music. There are beautiful art sculptures to admire as well. The other very popular festival is the Southwest Arts Festival held in January. We attract artists from all over the world, so there is always something here for everyone.

If you've never been here before, you'll want to take in a polo match at the Empire Polo Club. Besides seeing a polo match, you'll see Medjhool Lake, the Rose Garden, the Forum, and the Hacienda del Toro. These venues all offer something unique to the Polo Club. The Medjhool Lake offers a tranquil walkway by the lake with lush foliage and majestic palm trees. The Rose Garden, of course, offers three acres of rose gardens. The Forum was designed for parties, tradeshows and an art and balloon festival. It's surrounded by the Santa Rosa Mountains with spectacular views. Hacienda del Toro is home to landscaped gardens that features a bird aviary with sparkling waterfalls, all on three acres. Being from Los Angeles, I do miss some of the fabulous shops.
