Hutchinson Is A City Going Downhill 3 rating By Anonymous ( Aug 18, 2015) I moved to Hutchinson, KS about 10 years ago from the busy city of Charlotte, NC. This was one of the moves that I dreaded making, and I had to force myself to enjoy the city. Most of the town is comprised of older buildings with very little in the way of attractions for the family. The Hutchinson Zoo is probably the most popular attraction for families. Due to the size of the zoo, the admission is free. Some of the exhibits rotate, with my favorite being the dinosaurs. There is a train and gift shop.

One of my favorite places to visit is Smith's Market. This is a farmer's market with vendors that display their fresh fruits and vegetables as well as homemade items. It's a large market that I could stay at all day. I enjoy being able to purchase items from those who use local products as they want to keep funds in the city instead of ordering from other countries. I have also discovered some of the best candy while walking around the market. While there are a few museums and shopping centers, the city has really went downhill in the past few years that I have been here. Some businesses have closed while others have moved to larger cities. The city does try to decorate in a festive manner for the Christmas holiday. This is probably the one thing I look forward to through the year. Read Less
