Lived in the area my whole life User Rating 5 rating By Anonymous ( Nov 30, 2020) This is a great place to raise a family. As with all places there are bad areas and good areas. The schools are mostly good. The teachers are excellent. There are plenty of things to do with your family. Nice restaurants. The mall is amazing and getting new stores all the ti ...Read More me. Great place for families User Rating 4 rating By writergirl ( May 10, 2014) I've lived in North Hurst for 8 years. My husband and I chose our home because of the neighborhood, which was established (a mix of 1980s and newer homes) and had lots of trees. We are also directly across from a small park, which gives a true neighborhood feel because you tend t ...Read More o see the same folks out walking themselves and their dogs there daily, and a lot of the same families on the playground. A couple of years after we moved here we had our son, and it was then I discovered how great Hurst can really be with a kid. The parks are numerous, shaded, and well maintained by the city. There's a fantastic recreation center, which offers many inexpensive classes and programs for children and adults (my son has been a regular there since he was about 3 years old). They have two aquatic centers, which have slides, pools, lifeguards, kiddie play areas, and lots of seating for the parents. They are always clean and a ton of fun in the summer, and only $2 for residents to get in for the day...hard to beat that. I can get to downtown Fort Worth in about 15 minutes, Six Flags in about 25 or 30, and there's an NRH20 (BIG water park) 5 minutes down the street from my house. So the central location is terrific, and something I appreciate more each year as my son gets older and we look for new, fun things to do. The library is also very good, with a 10,000 square foot addition added on just a couple of years ago. Lots of good programs and fun, free things going on there too.

I've never felt unsafe here, but North Hurst is nicer than the South end. My neighbors are great, and my neighborhood is quiet. I feel pretty lucky that we bought a home here (it's increased in value, by the way) because of all the things I mentioned. They are building a Whole Foods nearby, which I'm excited about, because we eat pretty healthy. The Tom Thumb grocery story in my neighborhood is good though, too, with lots of locally grown produce and organic foods. I've grown to really like it here, and really like all that there is to do within a 30 minute drive too. Read Less
Typical North Texas town. User Rating 2 rating By kotodama ( Oct 07, 2012) I lived in Hurst for seven years. It is a typical North Texas town. By that I mean it has lots of generic amenities but nothing especially unique. The southern part of Hurst tends to be a bit older and somewhat run down. The northern part has newer housing and a better character. ...Read More Generally the place looks pretty good. But don't let that fool you. Crime (mostly young people involved in drugs) runs rampant! Our family was torn apart by my son's unfortunate involvement in Hurst's underbelly of drug trade. Some of the stories he told me after-the-fact made my skin crawl! Mostly people keep to themselves. All over North Texas people tend to be shallow and provincial. To a great extent this true in Hurst. With that said I will admit that you'll have some good neighbors in Hurst also. City services are good compared to some other areas. I hope you like the heat because, in Texas, you will roast even with your AC cranking!! Read Less
