Nothing Ever Changes for the Better Here User Rating 1 rating By Anonymous ( Mar 31, 2019) I drive though Holbrook twice a year while traveling on Route 66. I love Route 66 and I try to spend at least a few days on it every summer. For the past 15 years Holbrook has been oscillating between bad and very bad situation. It's no secret that the town is not rich, but I ...Read More think the local government officials are not doing much to improve the desperate situation. You have to try really hard to miss out on the booming Trump economy. A simple coat of paint and clean swept streets would improve the impression of the town in the eyes of visitors. Sorry, but the city looks like a messy dump.
What is Holbrook? Rotting Wigwam motel that's 50 years past its prime, bunch of very tired-looking businesses, and homes that look semi-abandoned because the unemployed people living in them have no money to maintain them. I am not trying to be mean, but the heydays of Route 66 are gone and they are not coming back, ever. The year is 2019, not 1957. After I-40 was open and Route 66 was officially decomissioned, many towns along Route 66 found new ways to adjust to the new reality and attract visitors and their money. Seligman is doing alright, for example. Holbrook could be a hotel hub for I-40 and Route 66 travelers. It could be a clean, welcoming stop for the tired travelers, but somehow no-one got that idea. Guys, a rotting 1965 Buick in your front yard is not an attractive decoration. It's trash. One last thing, I had to stay in Holbrook overnight some two years ago. I would strongly recommend that you do not go out and about after dark. The place was crawling with alcoholics and drug users. Sad situation. Read Less
Tijuana's cousin town User Rating 1 rating By Justice ( Jan 13, 2017) If you like CRIME, a Crooked Apathetic (barely educated) Local government, , you like Tijuana style law that will shake you down for your dollar, an Injustice local court , high unemployment, a feeling of despair, bottom of the barrel shopping options; you Dislike any sort of Inn ...Read More ovative (different) thinking, you dislike any kind of creative arts - Then Hole Brook will be a great place for you!Hole brook Welcomes all government job flunkees that could not make it elsewhere. How does a town of population slightly over 5,000 come up with a budget of over $10 million? Good job law enforcement and courts for shaking down the innocent that pass through, yet they have no control over their local crime problems. The wild west still lives on through the legal government extortion by use of crooked law enforcement and courts. For a state that despises Mexico it does a great job at emulating one of it's worst cities. Uncolerful City User Rating 1.5 rating By ChrisA108 ( Jan 29, 2014) I stayed the night here on the way to the 4 corners monument. Highway 40 A.K.A route 66 was the prime highway for the southwest (get your kicks on route 66). Sure Holbrook is on it, but that makes no difference in its economy. I noticed that there were a lot of closed down sto ...Read More res that were vandilized (oh and one billbored was hanging by a thread). The % of people unimployed is sky high, the job oppertunity here is going away, due to that, the unimployment rate is skyrocketing. Yes, I wonnder why crime is so bad here? Lets face it, its right next to a major indian reservation. If you are going to move out there, than good luck finding a job.
