Choose Somewhere Else to Live User Rating 1 rating By Anonymous ( Dec 03, 2023) I am presently selling my house to move from Haymarket. It use to be a nice community. Now, our elected leaders are selling out to the Data Centers which is bringing a lot of crime, horrendous traffic, and mean people moving in. There are plenty of parks and a beautiful well stoc ...Read More ked public library. Lots of shopping in Haymarket and Gainesville, which borders Haymarket.
Housing is not affordable. The average 4 bed 3 bath is $950,000 but with the mortgage rates, people are lowering their price to just above what the County assesses the value of the house is, which for me is over $590,000. The mortgage payments would be a little under $5,000/month. Rent, is outrageous. You can find some condominiums for between $385,000 to a little under $500,000 but what they don't tell you is that the HOA is $495-$500/month and you don't get anything from it. That is about $60,000/year more that people have to pay. For a SMALL two bedroom with two bath apartment, the rent is between $3,000 to $4,000/month.,
The neighbors and churches are mean and are only nice if you are in their clique. There are very few sidewalks to walk on in Haymarket. A lot of Haymarket, people have to walk on the road or the gravel.
Juvenile and adult crime is horrendous and the Prince William County Police do not consider answering a 911 call as important. They come when they come, IF they CHOOSE to come. If you look on the Virginia State Police Sex Offender Registry you will find a horrendous amount of pedophiles and rapists living and working in Haymarket and Gainesville.
Traffic is a nightmare and the noise level from the building of the Data Centers can be heard all over Haymarket. The noise from the traffic is constant. You can here convoys of dump trucks and delivery/gas trucks and 18 wheelers at all hours of the day and night. Our politicians/leaders do not care about being servants to the public. We serve them until we are no longer of any use to them and then they cast us to the curb until the next election comes around. Our politicians, whether Republican or Democrat only care about themselves. Only if you have very deep pockets that empty for them will they give their time to listen to you. The only attractions at night in Haymarket are going to the local bar to get drunk and get into a brawl. We have one politician who likes to do that.
The local high school, Battlefield High is not safe. Many years back, the County started a program where kids could stay home to learn and only come to school to take the test. The reason for this new program was due to kids being brutally beaten, knifed, injured from other kids who were in brawls and they unfortunately got caught in the crossfire while walking to class. So the county allowed the good kids to stay home to learn and only show up to take the test. This is why kids are seen walking to school or walking home from school at the weirdest hours. The Dominion Valley Shopping Center is across the street from the high school, and after school, a large number of juvenile delinquents go to the shopping center to drag race in the parking lot, steal the keys to the mobility scooters in Giant so the elderly will fall. These kids stand there and laugh at the elderly and disabled. One time there was a knifing in the shopping center. Four kids jumped a fifth kid and knifed the hell out of him. Their intentions were very clear. They tried to murder him but he miraculously survived. I know it is very difficult to find a "bubble" to live in and love. Before you choose to move to Haymarket only to regret it, look elsewhere first. Read Less
