The school district is mediocre at best and suffers, not from particularly low funding, but from its negative environment. Elementary an ...Read More d some middle schools (at least the new ones) are pretty ok, but the high schools really aren't where they're supposed to be. Your best bet is Kecoughtan, but even that one isn't where some of the other town's schools are. A family with little kids should be fine as long as they don't go to a bad middle school, but once they're high school age, a town in VA with a top-notch (or at least better) school district is preferable. There are many attractions in Hampton and plenty of things to do, but overall the Hampton area is quite obviously a beach community and is best for those who enjoy a fun day out in the sun!

...Read More rly enjoy the wide variety of restaurants in Hampton. Without a doubt the most common style of food you will find is seafood and the crab is outstanding! Hampton has several seafood buffets which provide a sensational food experience! There are also plenty of great hotels in Hampton which include national chains and smaller local resorts! I love the main city area which is filled with things such as classic boardwalk food, arcades and novelty shops! It's easy to spend a day just going from shop to shop or walking up and down gazing at everything on display!

The nightlife is Hampton is very active and there are plenty of bars and nightclubs! The overall environment is very clean and fun and is the perfect place to visit for just about anyone! Families will enjoy the family oriented activities the city sponsors during the summer nights! Read Less

      Hampton, VA is a city in eastern Virginia with a population of over 130,000 people. Hampton is a part of the Hampton Roads area on the southeastern shore of Virginia. This is a very historical city with bases such as Fort Monroe and military history showcased at the Virginia Air and Space Center. Hampton is a metropolis full of business development showcased through the Peninsula Town Center, with many growth opportunities.

      Fort Monroe is currently a national park that can still be visited in the Hampton area. It showcases history from the Revolutionary and the Civil War eras. You can also visit Langley Air Force Base and the Virginia Air and Space Center to get a feel for the military history of Hampton. The beach is always accessible for lounging at locations such as Buckroe Beach. The Hampton Coliseum is readily available for shows and entertainment as well.

      To get to these various locations in Hampton, there are many public transportation offerings. The Hampton Roads Transit connects you locally around the city, as well as to the other cities in the Hampton Roads area. Greyhound services this center, with even some buses taking individuals to places such as Richmond, Baltimore, Philadelphia and elsewhere. Costs for these services are relatively low.

      When considering other costs of living in Hampton, housing should be the first on your mind. Housing is slightly more expensive in the area on both the rental and mortgage fronts. It is lower than housing in the rest of Virginia, however. The average price of a house is over $170,000.

      Utility prices in Hampton are much less expensive than those in the rest of the country. This includes utilities such as electrical costs, internet costs and gas costs. Transportation, as previously mentioned, is significantly less expensive than that in the rest of the country and state through services such as the Hampton Roads Transit. Grocery costs are lower than the rest of the country and the state as well.

      There are many historical neighborhoods throughout Hampton to consider relocating to. These include Buckroe Beach, Aberdeen Gardens and Wythe. Each of these neighborhoods are safe, but it is important to perform your own research to determine the safest neighborhoods to live in. Most of the employment offered in Hampton is in the military, transportation, commerce or tourism industries. There are also resources for small business owners readily available.

      Hampton is a beautifully historic city in eastern Virginia. There are neighborhoods full of history from the Revolutionary and Civil War eras. There are military locations abound, especially in the air force. Do not forget to consider visiting the beach once you have moved to Hampton as well. The water and sand is waiting for you.
