Hammond, IN - A Beautiful Coastline User Rating 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jul 23, 2010) Hammond, Indiana, is bordered by Lake Michigan on the North and the Little Calumet River to the South. Hammond has one of the largest inland marinas in the country. It has a beautiful coastline that feels as if it streches for a thousand miles. If you are ever in Hammond I recomm ...Read More end that you stop at Lakefront Park. Lakefront park is to the West of the Marina and is a great place to spend an afternoon. In the distance of the beach front you can see the City of Chicago skyline. Lakefront Park is home to the Migratory Bird Sanctuary. This is fun place to bird watch during the Spring and Fall months. This park also has a bathing beach, a bath house, lifeguards, and a boardwalk. There are walking trails, both paved and unpaved.

There is a Horseshoe Casino in Hammond. Although, it tends to be smokey and not well ventilated. It is close to East Chicago. My preference is the outdoor Lake and nature areas.

If shopping is your thing, Hammond has Woodmar Mall, along with several shopping centers. Unfortunately, Woodmar Mall no longer has a food court and part of the mall is vacant. It probably has seen better days. Currently, the Mall appears to be half empty. On the positive side, it does have a Carson Pirie Scott store. Read Less
