gilroy needs help User Rating 0.5 rating By anonymoe ( May 10, 2017) Gilroy is not the town it is “Trumped up” to be. Trump would like to say,“It’s the greatest, it’s the best. The next Garlic Festival will be the best – the greatest.”The smell of garlic is more recently overshadowed by periodic dumps of heavy-metal laden manure and ...Read More it’s not properly done, so the entire town is periodically blasted with an unpleasant toxic haze – not to be confused with the actual garlic smell this town is known for. Each day plane-trails permeate the sky in a myriad of displeasing geometries – I haven’t seen those characteristic cloudless-blue-skies since 2008. Nature still tries, but the planes don’t allow it.The local reservoirs are so trashed, there is not a single pristine trail to the water, but all paths are littered with all manner of human garbage. Really? Not fun. And no one seems to care enough to raise the concern necessary to change this. Worse this year than I've ever seen it, and we're only at the start of the hot season.I worry for the quality of my garden due to the poor air quality, which is actually unbearable at times (the manure dumping and mysterious trails from planes). Rainwater has been shown to be tainted with hundreds, thousands, and even tens-of-thousands times the recommended point of concern for many dangerous pollutants such as aluminum, barium, and strontium. Don't believe me? A child could prove it with an off-the-shelf Hepa-filter.My own opinion is that this is an unhealthy town to live in, in many respects. The world is moving too fast these days, and there’s not enough protection, so I urge Gilroy residents and anyone who reads this to take the mission of finding solutions into their own hands. Personally, I am on a mission to protect myself and others, armed with not only research, but intuition. Follow your hearts, people, listen very carefully and you will know what is right and what is wrong and find the drive to protect yourself and those people and everything else that you love and hold everso dearly.Good luck, and Godspeed!-James, a concerned resident of GilroyP.S. the manure in the air really sucks Read Less
Gilroy - Not My Favorite User Rating 1 rating By Anonymous ( Apr 17, 2015) Gilroy is located in the south part of Santa Clara County in California. Home to around 50,000 people, this city has grown a lot in terms of population and construction in the last decade. Gilroy is popularly known for its garlic crop and one can smell garlic from 10 miles of thi ...Read More s place. When annual Garlic Festival is held at Gilroy, people throng from all parts of the bay area as well as North and South California to taste foods sprinkled with garlic. Gilroy is also famous for its mushroom production. In addition, many family estates to the west of Gilroy cultivate grapes for wine-making as well.

Gilroy does not have diversity like the rest of the bay area cities, one of the reasons why the city is not a favorite place among travelers. Only a couple of areas in Gilroy are considered safe to live, and schools are not so great which is why families prefer to live in nearby Morgan Hill or further south. Homes are affordable compared to other cities in the Silicon Valley. There are lots of distressed and foreclosure properties around the place I live, making it even worse for the real estate market here. However, there are plenty of shopping areas in the city, and one can enjoy the multitude restaurants and cuisines with tasty American, Asian and Mexican foods. Nightlife exists but most people, including myself, don't dare to stroll around at night due to high crime rate. Overall, this is not a desirable place if you are new to California or bringing a family here. I have lived in Gilroy for the past two years and can't wait to move out as soon as my project is over.
