My daughter spent four great years t ...Read More here and loved the area so much she got a good job and stayed. We've spent a great deal of time there ourselves. It seems one of the posters here, JV409, has more issues with health care in the US than with Fayetteville in particular. My sense is Fayetteville is conservative in culture as opposed to, say, any Oregon or California state school town, to be sure, but is not vastly so. The feel to me is more Midwestern in NW Arkansas than Southern, which is a real positive. Fayetteville is a bit grittier than more family-friendly NW Arkansas areas like Bentonville or Rogers. It could be a little cleaner, perhaps, but, again, it's a college town and should be judged accordingly. Dickson Street is packed with good bars and restaurants as well as a huge, non-university bookstore...very rare. Read Less

While there are many nice, normal individuals here, I’ve been a ...Read More nnoyed and even harassed by literally *hundreds* of people about my brief, unremarkable stint in the military some forty (40) years ago. I was a common sailor with a low-level job, and I got out in 1978. The first couple of years I lived in Fayetteville one or more people either asked me about the military every day, or made a remark about it near me in public. I’ll tell you who’s responsible for this lunacy: doctors and healthcare workers who give out personal information, and Veterans Administration employees. I’ve filed any number of written complaints with the authorities for years now. Many people here seem obsessed with the military, even college students from the University of Arkansas. In contrast, since 2014 only five or ten people in Fayetteville have asked me about the southern college I graduated from in 1982, or what I’ve done since. I moved to Fayetteville from Sarasota, Florida, and the same thing was going on down there, except it was worse. I’m considering moving to an entirely different part of the country, or even retiring outside the US.As you might imagine, healthcare in Fayetteville is awful and specialists are limited. Good luck getting in to see a urologist here for example. The one and only hospital here, Washington Regional, can be really bad depending on who you see. On one occasion the emergency room doctor was verbally giving me a hard time while I was flat on my back with groin pain. He made a nasty speech about me from the ER nurses station for no apparent reason at all. I filed a written complaint with the medical board. I’d rate healthcare in Fayetteville way below average for the US. Read Less

Nearly every time I walk into a large Walmart some stranger makes a remark about it. Not entirely normal. They exaggerate the importance of it. My military job required only a few months training after high school. I got a four-year college degree a long time ago. By the way, I am not buddies with any military veterans in Fayetteville. If any of those old cranks say they know me they're lying. When I first moved here a few years ago, sleazy old lower-class white men were harassing and insulting me in Walmart stores. All total strangers. Never seen them before. They wore dark-blue ball caps with a Navy logo. Some brought along hideously ugly old hags. I reported them to police. If you are a normal family or person ...Read More , will HATE the crime because given a year there, you will probably know a person or family member who has been raped or murdered, or it might even end up being you. The house prices and rentals are crazy being you are out in Nowhere in the middle of the Ozarks. Where do they get off charging that money, and for what? Side note, the weather sucks. if you like lazing about on constant 95 degree days and nowhere to swim, you will like it... PLus winter is no fun , not to mention tornados and the lack of rain.., When it does rain, you need to wash the pollution off your car. So, do your family a favor and move to Compton because it is probably better. Read Less

The University Of Arkansas and the city of Fayetteville are mostly ran by fake liberal elitist, black lives matter, antifa, LGBT and feminist. The university is a deconstructive institution that attacks peoples rights to speak freely and applies consequences for your expression and individualism. It's a indoctrination asylum and pathway into the occult. The people here seek salvation through virtue signaling how diverse and socially aware are of other peoples plight. They are hyperly easy to offend. The people here will call the police over a paper cut. Alternative media is right, the City Of Fayetteville Ar is a sanctuary city for illegals to come in and take over. There is absolutely no intelligent conversation happening here. They practice conformity and their attack on individualism is absurd. The bars in this town are very anti-second amendment and so are the sporting events here, although not all sporting events here have alcohol. If you are white male and socially ignorant about issues of social justice then don't go to public school to get an education or you'll end up being repressed by outsiders socially, economically and educationally. One manager "assigned" me a crummy apartment and wouldn't give me my deposit back. I got a chargeback from my credit card company. Apartment mangers talk to everybody like they're a freshman booking a dorm room. About 80 to 90 percent of the rentals are controlled by one company called Lindsey. Heathcare is okay if you're a healthy 20 year-old college student; not so good if you're 50. Read Less

Autumn in the Ozark Mountains is absolutely beautiful! There is alot of history in the Ozarks and in Fayetteville too. I'm a history buff. So I like that. A lot of restored historical buildings. Fayetteville enjoys high rankings in terms of places to move for business or career, and features a winning track and field program with awesome amenities for the public through the local university.

Fayetteville has some historic features worth visiting. In particular, the local and historic bar Maxine's Tap Room is worth the long trip alone, though many of the original features were lost in a fire some years ago and replaced. Nonetheless, the original structure is intact, the bar is open for business, and is notable for employing members of the University of Arkansas football team, offering fans of NCAA football with an opportunity to brush up against future professional sports stars.
