Safe warm beaches! 2.5 rating By facebookgamer1234 ( Jun 08, 2012) Englewood is a very small town located on amazing warm beaches. The town itself is quite small with a couple banks, grocery stores and a little "downtown" strip that has a good restaurant, coffee shop, gifts and antique stores. Its not a hopping place as the average age of the ...Read More town is 68. But it does offer classic car shows, a farmers market, and a VERY safe environment! The nice thing is if you get bored its right along the border of Venice FL which has a couple more things: Peir 1 Imports, Super WalMart, Target, Staples, ect. It also is only 20-40 minutes away from Port Charlotte, North Port, and Sarasota. Bigger areas where you can get a bit more action: shopping, theaters, art ect. Seems as though most places here are "chains", not too much in the way of culture unless you're used to that kind of thing. Its quite a slow relaxed place, beach bums with no makeup, shorts and flip flops. The warm beach and ocean is amazing. its a wonderful place to retire. If you're thinking about having a family here, it is VERY safe, but you better consider joining a church or something to meet some other younger people! :) Read Less
