This area was predominately Polish immigrants and city fire and police until around the early 1990s, as now grown children moved to the suburbs and their aging parents passed away. Summer festivals and a strong Catholic community (two churches and parochial schools in a two mile ...Read More
radius), along with superior public elementary schools created a strong sense of community. Unfortunately, all this changed dramatically.Warrendale’s location to spirting events, concerts and museums is strong, only 20 minutes from downtown Detroit and five minutes to Henry Ford’s Greenfield Village, leave this neighborhood poised for a comeback. The close proximity to several malls (Fairlane Towne Center and Westwood) and fresh produce (Westborn in West Dearborn) is a selling point. My friends and I would walk to the mall, catch a movie, eat at Olga’s and shop several times a week. With the incredible growth in East Dearborn, there is now the addition of incredible Middle Eastern cuisine close by.It would be wonderful to see new families move back into the neighborhood and revitalize this cozy community, with a Polish bakery seemingly on every block, return to its former glory. Oh and there are several parks for children, within walking distance from almost anywhere in the community.
