Central East Denver - A Family Neighborhood User Rating 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 10, 2014) I lived in Central East Denver for three years after graduating from college. It is one of the classier neighborhoods in Denver, and the housing, although expensive, is high quality. Although it was not quite as exciting as living in Downtown Denver, it was still a pleasant and i ...Read More nteresting neighborhood. It is more of a family neighborhood than a party place for young singles. However, Colorado Boulevard borders the west side of the neighborhood. It not only makes it easy to reach the central part of the city, but also provides plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, and entertainment options. Sixth Avenue, another busy thoroughfare, splits the neighborhood and makes it easy to get around, but offers fewer social options.

Overall, it is a quiet neighborhood. Most of the streets in this area are small enough to walk on without worrying about traffic. In the spring and summer, I often saw mothers out with strollers and young children. There are plenty of parks in the neighborhood, both above Sixth Avenue and below it, but I personally preferred Crammer Park. It is near Colorado Boulevard and is a bit bigger than the other parks. The neighborhood has many elementary schools, and one of the better high schools in the city, Hill Campus of Arts and Science. The many schools and parks made it feel like a very safe, homey place to live. Additionally, there is a medical center in the neighborhood in case of any emergancies.

Some people might worry because the northern border of the neighborhood is East Colfax Avenue. Colfax had a bad reputation when I lived in Denver, about ten years ago, but it wasn't as dangerous as people made it seem, and now I hear it has gotten even better. The bad section of Colfax is a bit further east than Quebec Street, which is the eastern border of this neighborhood. The section of Colfax that is in the neighborhood has quite a few restaurants and supermarkets, as well as a Montessori school.

My overall experience living in Central East Denver was positive. I eventually left for work reasons, but it is a neighborhood I would consider living in again, especially with a family and slightly higher income than what I had immediately after school. Read Less
