Full time resident User Rating 4 rating By Anonymous ( Aug 18, 2019) There is only one doctor's office here, only one grocery store. One 7-11. Very few restaurants, and they are pretty pricey. The doctor's office will not accept you if you only have Medicare. You have to also have a "secondary local coverage." There is no optometrist or veterinar ...Read More ian.

The air is clean and smells way better than the air down the hill. The tap water is purified, clean and tastes good. Lake Gregory is beautiful to behold, wonderful to walk around or kayak on.

It is dangerous to walk around outside at night due to the wild animals who are out hunting at night. Skunks may spray you, we have bobcats, one lynx, and lots of bears and coyotes. The bottom town is littered with missing animal posters. Most of the missing animals or pets are small dogs and cats. The coyotes run in packs and will attack if you are walking a small dog, day or night.

We have no ice cream trucks blasting out their annoying loud music. We rarely have emergency vehicle sirens blasting. No gunshots, no gang members or loud music players, (except for a few young people).

At night, the stars are wonderful to see while listening to the millions of crickets. But you will also be eaten alive by flying insects outside after dusk.

Every home, every location has its perks and down sides. I believe these mountains, especially Crestline, to have more benefits than downsides. We will never move back down the hill. It is paradise up here. Peace, quiet, serenity, nature and the townsfolk are all so friendly because they are happy to be here too. No hatred, hostility, anger, racism, tension - none of what is typically felt down the hill.

The town closes down completely at around 10:00 p.m. The 7-11 stays open but after 10 p.m. the local County Sheriffs and the Highway Patrol, both of which are very bored, will be scouring the town for ANY thing that should warrant their attention like a broken tail light, etc. They seem to believe that anyone moving about after 10 p.m. is a criminal and needs to be harassed, I mean pulled over and interrogated for no reason. So get your goods before 10 and get home before 10.

Make sure you have lots of bug repellant with you when you come up here. Spray on insect repellant works best, like 'Cutter'. In the summer, it is very warm during the day, chilly at night. Pack clothing to suit this.

DO NOT start any kind of fire ANYWHERE during the summer months. No Bar-B-ques, no firepits, no wood burning stoves or fireplaces. Do NOT smoke anything, like cigarettes outside!

Use Lake Gregory to get away from the heat, noise, sirens, ice cream trucks, drug dealers, homeless, panhandlers, drug users and people!

Do NOT bring any of the above listed problems with you! Come looking for Peace, quiet and serenity up here, and you will find it. Read Less
