My in-laws have lived in Covina, California for a number of years and so we often vacation there every year. At one point we stayed for the entire summer because there was so much to do in the area. They belonged to a great country club and we played golf almost everyday. The mor ...Read More
nings were almost always pleasant. Sometimes a little overcast, but the afternoons could be quite warm so we always tried to get an early start. Some people said the smog in the area bothered them, but for me, I just tried to over look it. The sky does have a faded blue color and once out of the greater Los Angeles area it is great to look up and see a beautiful blue clear sky. But with all the activity going on, most people never stop to look at the sky.
Santa Ana winds were a problem once in while and they would blow a warm wind for a couple of days. When I heard there was going to be a Santa Anna, I often planed an indoor activity. We usually tried to take the kids to Disneyland and Universal Studios at least once while we visited, but with all the popular attractions so close, it was hard to choose which one to go to. The problem was money of course, because most of them are rather pricy. Traffic was also something that I would like to forget about, but whenever in this area, it should be considered. It is always an issue and it can take hours to get somewhere that is really very near by.
The beautiful mountains surrounding the area are close and it is easy to drive up to Big Bear and ski for the day. The area is a visitor's paradise, but would I really want to live there year around? I don't think so. I was always glad when it was the in-laws turn to come up to Fresno to see us. After all, it really is God's country and I love all the Fresno area has to offer.
But my wife and kids are still fond of all the great restaurants, the beach and all the live entertainment available in the Covina area, so every year, we still spend a good portion of our vacation time there and even though the in-laws are aging, there is always something for all of us to enjoy together as a family. I guess you could call it my second home.
