Conyers Is Still Good 4 rating By Anonymous ( Jul 31, 2019) We, my husband, son and myself, moved to Conyers in 1987. My son was 3 years old when we came here. In the years that we've been here, I have had one stereo stolen from my vehicle, and one attempted break-in, that was unsuccessful. That's 32 years, and those happened in our fir ...Read More st ten years here. My son went to public school grades 1 through 12 and had no serious issues. He was in boy scouts, sponsored mainly by the local churches and he achieved Eagle Scout. The only issue that I have is that all of the powers that be, are in old town, Conyers, a small district that looks a bit like Mayberry. All of Conyers funds and tax money seems to be funneled into old town, and the rest of the county is largely ignored. As far as crime, there are certain areas, mainly around apartments on Salem Rd., and Irwin Bridge Rd./West Avenue that I avoid. Just like any other town, there are unsafe pockets. I live on the northern end of the county near the Horse Park. It's a bit more rural and the neighborhoods are a little older, but it's peaceful. We've experienced no trouble here for the last 10 years that we've lived here. If we have crime, it generally comes out of Dekalb County, which is an armpit. If you want fine dining, shopping and night-life, the mall is about 15 minutes west on I-20, but, it's right inside of Dekalb County. We don't go there very often. Read Less
Conyers: A transitioning community- 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( Aug 13, 2018) Conyers is where the generation X's retreat not to be bothered. In all honesty it is beautiful and picturesque. Your kids have to go out-of-their-way to get into trouble here. There is an outstanding Rockdale Career Academy that's worth the $20 million necessary to build it. Howe ...Read More ver, retention of people after they've graduated is lackluster. Conyers is a bit of sleepy town. Everything shuts down at 10pm. Transportation is coming but still in the initial phases. Conyers is an excellent place to raise your kids, but unemployment is still a thing. Nobody wants infrastructure development in their backyard. They want to maintain the peaceful environment that they moved to, even though quite a few apartments complexes have gone up since.Sidewalks are limited, so you would never guess this city was booming economically, and hotels were booked out Monday through Friday. Conyers Village is a very aesthetically pleasing shopping plaza that overlooks the interstate. It gets people to stop-on-by. The horse park is also a big draw for visitors. While the City has such amenities, many opt to reside in the outskirts in unincorporated Rockdale County, as many residents of Conyers, do no actually work in Conyers. Warehouse and manufacturing jobs do not pay the $15/hour they use to, so it proves to be quite unattractive labor with 10 hour shifts on one's feet and two 20 minute breaks. The manufacturing sector is the largest sector in the city, and most people would only participate in this sector as a last resort. This is how the unemployment issue persists, even though there "jobs," one would need two to make ends meet without a degree, and that's living on the low end.Rockdale and Conyers have yet to go electronic in their policing. The force is still old fashioned and gets a lot of revenue from traffic stops, when it could just install police cameras and speed tracking devices in all the key locations and relegate ticketing to code enforcement and dispatch. Both forces would save the city and county money, and reduce the expenditure of the taxpayer. Read Less
