I lived in northwest Columbus, Ohio for 2 years in my early twenties. More specifically Upper Arlington, which is just a stone's throw away from The Ohio State University. There are a few different neighborhoods in the northwest region of Columbus, and in my opinion Upper Arlingt ...Read More
on is the best. It is the perfect blend of an affluent, suburban neighborhood and the electricity of a thriving entertainment district. It lies in the northwest area of Columbus but it's in the heart of the city. UA is a great place to raise a family but also a great place for young singles.
Overall UA is a very safe place to live. It's considered affluent and I personally never experienced any semblance of crime, nor did I ever feel unsafe. You can routinely find quiet tree lined streets with large homes even though you're right across from the hustle and bustle of High Street, Lane Avenue, and The Ohio State campus. The most popular shopping center is The Shops On Lane Avenue, which is host to a plethora of shopping options and restaurants. The layout and atmosphere is inviting, family friendly, and clean. It's an outdoor shopping area with an excellent vibe as you walk past the shops.
UA might be most popular across Ohio for it's high school, Upper Arlington High School. UAHS has won a record 41 state championships in various team sports and received several national awards for excellence in learning. Jack Nicklaus is an alum and the school bears his nickname "The Golden Bears." If you're relocating to UA, remember that it sits directly next door to OSU and there is a heavy Buckeye influence on everything in the area.
My overall rating is a 10 because when you combine everything a neighborhood is supposed to be, you won't find any better than Upper Arlington. The only reason some categories don't get a 10 is because those areas of interest are abundant on OSU campus, which isn't technically considered part of Upper Arlington. However, campus is barely one mile away.
