City more interested in mcmansions than its middle class. 2 rating By Anonymous ( Oct 01, 2019) What happens when you get a mayor that has been around for 25 years, mcmansions replacing tiny houses surrounding yours and nosy neighbors? You get Clifton over the last 20 years Clifton has been selling out those little tiny houses so that those that can't really afford to live ...Read More in a rich neighborhood and feel supreme above the small houses. Then as soon as they tear down the house and build their house they complain about your house because it doesn't meet their standards! Mind you now you have politicians who only care about those people because they bringing higher taxes than you and want to push you out!
And even if you can afford to improve your house, you will have to get permits for every single thing you do. After that the city will come in inspect your house and charge you more in taxes.
want to have a garage sale and make twenty bucks fine you're going to pay 10 bucks for the permit just to do that. And don't you dare put those signs up on a telephone pole or any public land are you will be hauled off into court. Oh but if your politician feel free to stick your political signs anywhere you like without anybody coming down on you even when reported to the city they will not do a thing. you can even put them on the highway, the telephone poles, even in front of fire hydrants and nobody will do a thing about it because you're a politician.
open a new business in Clifton congratulations the mayor will show up for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and that is the final time you will see him a couple weeks after that you'll probably be hit with violations on anything you can think of just to push you back out of the city again.
want to know what's Clifton looks like take a ride down Van Houten Ave and look at all the abandoned businesses that'll give you a great idea what Clifton looks like.
want to see what corruption is look at the entrance to Route 3 from notch road that was closed up several years ago because it was considered dangerous to have entrance or exit there. Then wonder why fette Ford only a few years later got their own private entrance and exit to Route 3 right next to it. Makes you wonder why the police cars are being worked on in Fette Ford. park your car from your house for more than two days you'll get a ticket pocket within 25 ft of those wheelchair access ramps you'll get a ticket drive a 5-ton tractor trailer through and deliver cars at fette Ford even though there's a 2-ton limit don't worry you won't get a ticket.
Like to view of Garret mountain? Oh you don't don't worry we're going to tear that down and build more housing. Not just any housing though it'll be the expensive housing! and what kind of people will live there? The kind of people that complain that there are deer in their backyard.
How's traffic in Clifton? Better to ask where can we put another traffic light in Clifton. And don't worry we've got way stick it out there too will put up a traffic light brand new and then a couple weeks later replace it with yet another traffic light with a left turn signal but only on one side of the road because if we put it on both sides it would improve traffic flow and we don't think that way.
Don't like Clifton, and want to move out? Good luck with that who wants to move into a town with taxes this high?
so I guess the real question is how much money do you have? Because if it's enough you can move into Clifton and do whatever you want without any obedience to the law whatsoever. However if you're middle class or lower oh, you're going to have a bad time here because you will have to obey every single law that can nitpick on you.
Is there a worse-run town then Clifton? That is a good question, because in all my travels I haven't found one yet. Read Less

On any summer day you will find neighbors sitting and talking outside, kids playing in the parks a ...Read More nd the ice cream truck making its way through the streets. And on every Christmas Eve, neighbors gather outside their homes to wave as Santa Claus drives throughout the town on a float led by a police escort, to wish everyone a happy holiday.

Clifton is ideally situated in New Jersey because it‘s close to NYC, the famed Jersey Shore, and the Delaware Water Gap. However you don't need to travel outside the city limits to do any shopping or dining because Clifton has numerous quaint shopping areas and eateries, notably the Tick Tock Diner, which has been mentioned on several food shows, and written about in articles. For those who love the outdoors, look no further than Garrett Mountain Reservation, a huge park with several miles of walking/running trails, basketball courts, picnic areas and a spectacular view of the city below and NYC beyond.
