Rogers Park Chicago, IL Neighborhood Review 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 09, 2014) I lived in Rogers Park while I attended Loyola University and, personally, I loved living there. While many of my friends and classmates opted to live in trendier neighborhoods like Lincoln Park, I stayed close to Loyola and do not regret it one bit. Rogers Park has often carried ...Read More a fairly bad reputation, and is considered dangerous by some. I lived in one of the areas or Rogers Park that people often presume is fairly dangerous, just south of Loyola and north of the Granville Red Line station. Not once did I experience anything remotely dangerous or scary. That all being said, Rogers Park is fairly diverse in terms of demographics and housing type, so making generalizations about the neighborhood would be unwise. While the eastern section that runs along the Red Line is fairly urban, parts of West Rogers Park blend in with Skokie.

Perhaps the best aspect of Rogers Park is its location on the Red Line, which is probably the most valuable "El' train line in the city. Trips down to the "Loop" do not take very long at all, and you can easily get to Evanston by taking the Red Line north to Howard and transferring to the Purple Line. While Rogers Park itself leaves much to be desired in terms of restaurants and bars, its location makes it easy to get to many of Chicago's best restaurant hubs. Moreover, a short drive or long walk down Devon puts you in the midst of some of the finest Indian cuisine in North America. My favorite part of Rogers Park, however, is the lake. While many prefer to go to Navy Pier or the beach to check out Lake Michigan, I prefer to enjoy the lake near Loyola's campus. It is far more quiet and peaceful up north, making the atmosphere more pleasant if you enjoy relaxing by the lake.

Although the positive attributes I have listed related to Rogers Park may not seem all that impressive in comparison to some of Chicago's more popular neighborhoods, please note that apartments in Rogers Park can often be rented at half the price of similar units in areas like Lincoln Park. If you have a job in the city and are looking to save money on rent,you should consider Rogers Park. Read Less
