Edgewater Chicago, IL Neighborhood Review 4 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 10, 2014) I have lived in Edgewater most of my life. My family moved here from Atlanta when I was just two years old. I enjoy relaxing walks on the waterfront.

We have good public transportation, transportation, shops, restaurants, and many community events. There is little crime, and the ...Read More neighborhood feels safe and has a quiet, family atmosphere. It is not an expensive place to live, and my neighbors are polite and friendly.

Edgewater is a lakefront neighborhood on Chicago's North side; six miles north of the Loop. The community is bordered on the north by Foster Avenue, on the south by Devon Avenue, Ravenswood Avenue borders the west and Lake Michigan is on the east. Edgewater has several great beaches. Lincoln Park, the largest park in the Chicago area, runs near the southern border of Edgewater along the waterfront for six miles.

Edgewater has a population of 62,250. Most residents are Caucasian, but there are also many Asians, African Americans, and people of other ethnicities here. Most residents speak English at home.

Edgewater is very livable. There is a high income per capita, plenty of local amenities, a stable housing market, and high graduation rates. The community is mostly residential and many residents commute to work in downtown Chicago.

The median housing value is $357,402 the median rental rate is $1,096 and the median household income is $49,015. Employment is good and getting better. The average summer temperature is 70°, and the average winter temperature is 30°.

I love Edgewater! It's not perfect, but there are some real positives. It is a delightfully diverse community. I love my view of the lake, my access to the beach, the ability to walk on the paths so easily.

There are many different kinds of restaurants here; there are drinks to be had on the cheap, cheap, and a wide variety of people. People actually talk about politics and religion while drinking here and that to me is something that makes it a true Chicago neighborhood. Read Less
