I lived in Auburn Gresham in Chicago, Illinois for roughly a year during my early twenties. I relocated to Auburn Gresham from Joliet, a city about 40 miles away from Chicago. Auburn Gresham is on Chicago's south side, and has a big city vibe that's the total opposite of Joliet. ...Read More
I loved Auburn Gresham for many reasons. The community was extremely inexpensive and affordable, for one. I lived in a spacious apartment with a roommate and our rent was very manageable, unlike many other parts of the metropolis. Auburn Gresham also offered me convenient and quick access to all of Chicago's exciting cultural attractions. If I wanted to visit Shedd Aquarium, the Science Industry Museum, Navy Pier or the Adler Planetarium, I was always just a short train ride away.
Dining is a strong point for Auburn Gresham, too. People in the neighborhood can enjoy many diverse types of cuisine. If you have an appetite for hearty Southern meals, then you might want to stop by Morrison's Authentic Southern Cooking Restaurant for a quick bite. If you love traditional Mexican fare, then you might want to visit Pepe's Mexican Restaurant, which boasts a menu of delicious classics such as steak tacos, grilled chicken quesadillas, steak burrito frizos, stuffed nachos, flautas and tostadas. Other exciting dining options in Auburn Gresham include American, Greek and Italian establishments. The best part of dining in Auburn Gresham is the affordability. While dining out in Chicago is often extremely expensive, Auburn Gresham is home to many budget-friendly eateries.
While Auburn Gresham has affordability and convenience on its side, it's definitely not the best neighborhood to raise a family. Crime is unfortunately extremely common in Auburn Gresham. If you have children or often leave your home late at night, then it's probably a smart idea to look for another community in the Chicago area. Gang violence is extremely common in the neighborhood.
Nightlife is another "con" to life in Auburn Gresham. Since Auburn Gresham can get pretty dangerous, it's a good idea to avoid being outside in the area after dark. If you want to enjoy a terrific night out on the town, Chicago has many top-notch neighborhoods, however. If you travel away from Auburn Gresham, you'll be able to find many A+ bars and nightclubs. The bustling nightlife was one of my favorite aspects of life in the Windy City.
