If you want a safe quiet place to raise a family or retire, Camarillo is a perfectly nice place. However, if you’re looking to start up your career or have any sort of nightlife, look somewhere else. Someone told me, when speaking of Camarillo and Ventura County in general, tha ...Read More
t it’s a “nice place to settle down, but a terrible place to try and start your life.” I couldn’t agree more. It’s safe and quiet here but almost to a fault. Job options around here aren’t as plentiful as LA or Orange County. Food options are limited and many of the better places to eat at are usually in the next towns over. However the restaurants in town aren’t bad, they just aren’t something to rave about either. And if you’re young like me, it’s hard to find a place with lots of other young people to make friends or hang out with.
TLDR: Good place for families and retirees, but that’s it. Not much else going for it.

I have visited my extended family in Camarillo at least once a year for as long as I can remember. It is a time I will always value and whenever I am there it reminds me of my childhood and my family.
When we visited it seemed there was always something to do. My aunt and uncle ...Read More
took us to the famous Ranch House or the Camarillo Outlets on Ventura Boulevard for some gift shopping or, more recently, to walk through the restored Old Town section with its sidewalk cafes and little art galleries. My favorite has to be the World War II Aviation Museum at the Camarillo Airport.
I love how Camarillo has transformed from a small farming area to a bedroom community for both Los Angeles and Ventura yet it has kept its small town appeal. Recently, however, crime has seemed to surge in the area. I can only attribute this to the "city folk" that moved in to the area from the nearby urban centers. Fortunately the Ventura County Sheriff has responded with its Police Citizens Academy.
There always seems to be plenty of places to eat in Camarillo. Mexican, Indian, Thai and Italian restaurants dot the town and always gave us quite a selection to choose from whenever we feel like eating out.
Now that I am an adult I love having a place from my childhood that I can share with my children.
