I grew up in Butler, moved away in 1975. Butler was always a very pleasant, rather laid back town, smaller population, a mix of residential housing, some small businesses, few apartments. The main street is a bit small, little shopping, some nice eating establishments. A good ...Read More
school system, a very professional volunteer Fire Dept, and a well-established Police Dept, as well. A small public library. It is close to Milwaukee, with all the both positives and negatives that today's big cities all have. Weather in Butler, four very well defined seasons. Pleasant summers, tho humidity can be oppressively high, and pesky mosquitoes must be coped with. Fall is beautiful, the air dries out, bugs disappear, trees turn color, wow, lotsa leaves to rake up, and the nights can be quite cool, a great season for outdoor barbecuing. Then winter, temps can be cold, snow can be heavy, deep, residents are outdoorsy types, skiing, hiking, hunting, fishing, etc. But....every January I recall some temps down, once I experienced, really, an early morn temp of minus 30F, not for those faint of heart. Springs can be rainy, if there was lotsa winter snow, there areas in Wisconsin prone to flooding. I don't recall, tho, any flooding issues in Butler, but you want to keep an eye on your basement, I'm sure there are some in Butler, who must invest in a "sump pump". People who live in Butler have observed that each season, you gotta spend time, preparing for the next season. Summer - make sure your home HVAC system is up to snuff for the pending cold weather. Always keep watch on roof/shingles, gutters, be sure windows are in good repair. Fall - ya gotta take care of the leaves. Be sure to check out your snow blower, an absolute necessity. Having a bag of salt/sand is a good idea as slippery ice can cause falls/injuries. Winter - some enjoy outdoors in the cold, others tend to stay inside, I preferred having good Cable and Internet, and a well-stocked freezer and fridge, and always a supply of coffee. Blizzards, ice, snow, bone chilling low temps, tend to make one a homebody. Spring - thank God the Winter is over, but Spring can be wet wet wet. There was one time I recall, a very fast and dramatic warm up, the ground was still frozen from winter, the fast high warmup, caused a very huge thaw, with extremes of high humidity, it was very very uncomfortable. Living in Butler, Wisconsin, the Midwest, can be very enjoyable, and also an adventure.
