Bridgeport Reviews

Write a review about Bridgeport Tell people what you like or don't like about Bridgeport…
A large city with a different vibe every few blocks 4 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 21, 2021) Bridgeport is the largest city in CT. I've lived here for 3 years near University of Bridgeport. I used to walk to the train station (15 minutes) and never felt unsafe at night. I never felt unsafe, but I did live in a building where a tenant's apartment was broken into. I moved ...Read More out of the building shortly after that incident. I'm renting a house 3 blocks from my old apartment and it feels like a different world. All the neighbors know each other and say hello. It feels more suburban. I can drive up one street and feel like I'm in the ghetto then 5 minute later I can see huge houses with manicured lawns.
Seaside Park is beautiful and the Beach is clean. I visit daily as it's within walkign distance. If you're visiting I would say this is the area to visit.
Other attractions: Barnum Museum (which isn't much to see sadly), a St. Margaret's Shrine (you don't have to be religious to appreciate this scaled down vatican knockoff), Housatonic University (they have real Picasso's and other famous works of art just decorating the various buildings, no tourists or long lines).
There's a comedy club and two music venues. I haven't done any of the nightlife stuff here, but a lot of people travel from Long Island and other parts of CT to go to these spots.
Because the city is so big it's hard to say whether it's dangerous. I've walked through downtown daytime and nighttime without issues. I think suggesting that "positive ratings must be from gang members" is an exaggeration. I don't know anyone who's in a gang who would bother to go online and fill out a "review" of their city.
I've never had a direct issue but can't give 3.5 stars so I gave it 4 stars. Read Less
Positive ratings must be from gang members. 0.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 14, 2020) This is a high crime area. There are gang fights and someone is shot, assaulted or car jacked every day. I worked downtown years ago and had to run the red lights to avoid people jumping up and down on the bumpers of my car. There are restaurants that hire security to walk pe ...Read More ople to their cars. The outskirts of the city aren't as bad but you have to send your kids to private school. Some kids are still illiterate when they graduate high school and if they aren't a part of the gang/violence culture they will be terrified to go. Read Less
Bridgeport, CT - The Small City Harbor Town 4 rating By Anonymous ( May 07, 2010) Bridgeport, CT is the largest city in Connecticut yet it is still quite small. I first visited the city on a school field trip years ago and late returned in 2009 with my wife. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Bridgeport had lifted its image and become a center for diverse ...Read More and exciting activities from sports events to festivals!

Apparently Bridgeport, CT has over 2.5 million visitors a year which is something you would hardly notice when visiting. With such a large amount of tourism each person is sure to have their own opinion but for me I know one of my favorite locations in Bridgeport was a restaurant called Baldwin Plaza. Right in the middle of downtown off the main street is a beautiful, friendly and green plaza where you can go for a picnic, walk the dog or play Frisbee with the kids! Its a truly wonderful place where a certain harmony is achieved between visitors and residents of Bridgeport.

Bridgeport is filled with a wide variety of restaurant options although you will find the most readily available meal is seafood! Seafood makes sense since Bridgeport has the feel of a "Harbor Town" is very rich with its sea-faring past! Bridgeport would be perfect if there was a little more nightlife but unfortunately the city seems to sleep after 9pm; wich is great for families! Read Less

      vs

      Bridgeport, CT

Bridgeport is the largest city in Connecticut and much of its success has come from its location as a port city and its role in the early American Industrial Revolution. The city has continued to grow in the past few decades, especially because of its higher education opportunities and excellent economy. The city has become more international lately and that will likely increase the population boom of the area.

Bridgeport's economy is currently fueled by its service industry, though its industrial sector is still relatively strong. Some of the biggest employers today include hospitals, banks, and the University of Bridgeport. The workforce is highly educated compared to much of the United States, with about 1 in 5 workers possessing at least a bachelor's degree. There are plenty of work opportunities available, regardless of your specialty, but a higher learning degree would certainly help your chances.

For those wishing to relocate or start a family, Bridgeport has some of the best public schools in New England, with many students going on to prestigious universities in the area. Bridgeport is also the home of several institutions of higher learning, with the University of Bridgeport and Houstanic Community College being the most renowned. This region of the United States is generally excellent in terms of quality of the quality of education. Aside from schooling, there are also many cultural centers which make the city appealing, including the Discovery Museum and Planetarium, Klein Memorial Auditorium and the Beardsley Zoo. Most people will have no trouble finding something interesting to do here everyday.

Public transportation is available in the form of busing, and it is decent. Most residents prefer cars but another option is biking if you want to be environmentally friendly. Many college students choose to bike or ride the bus because it is much more budget friendly.

The cost of living in Bridgeport is just a bit above average for a city of its size, with the average apartment being around $1,500 per month. The minimum wage is higher than the federal rate and it is going to increase over the next few years, and it helps to offset the cost of the city. Groceries and other necessities are about average compared to the rest of the United States and the majority of residents have no trouble living comfortably here.

Bridgeport is a city with a rich history that has continued to boom for centuries. There is no sign of that success slowing down and it is a great place to raise a family or live on your own. If you are considering moving here, you will likely be welcomed by the friendly residents and feel like a local before long.
