One of the fastest growing cities in the country, Brampton is one of Canada’s most populated cities. Today, it is part of the GTA, but in the past it was a village that was named after an English market town. Brampton is a major economic centre that is home to numerous head offices, as well as being a huge cultural melting pot. In fact, around 49 percent of the population speak a language other than English. With this comes a great collection of authentic restaurants serving cuisine from all over the world.

Brampton is home to a number of schools, some of which are part of the Peel school board and others that are part of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic school board. Regardless, all schools in the city are Anglophone public schools. There is only one post-secondary school in Brampton, which is a campus of Sheridan College. York University is not far from the city and is accessible by rapid transit bus from the Downtown Brampton Terminal. There are also GO trains from Brampton to Union station as well as coaches to Yorkdale and York Mills subway stations. Meaning, Brampton is a great city for commuters and highly accessible.

There are over 200 bus routes in Brampton, however most residents do prefer to get around by car. Regardless, you don’t need a car to live here, although it does help. If you live in Downtown Brampton you can get away with not having your own vehicle, as it is the most connected area of the city. It is also ‘the’ area to be in in terms of things to see and do, as any local Brampton resident will tell you. This is where the Rose Theatre, the Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives and Gage Park are located. Bramalea is also a popular area of the city, as it is home to one of the largest shopping centres in the country. The neighbourhood itself also happens to be home to over 500,000 residents, so it is no surprise that a Brampton guide will often lead people here.

In terms of living here, Brampton is quite a safe city. It is also reasonably affordable considering its location. This is why it attracts a large amount of commuters. Living here is much cheaper than in Toronto, but the city is very accessible. It is also becoming a top location for corporate head offices, warehouses and factories, which means there are quite a few jobs here. With employment come residents, many of which are families. In fact, it is one of the youngest communities in the GTA, with the median age being around 34.
