Great Little Town! 5 rating By curiousgeorge ( Sep 10, 2015) My husband and I recently went to Blue Ridge and checked it out as a possible retirement place. We didn't really think it would would work, because it is so small. Boy were we surprised. The place had everything you need and more! It has breathtaking scenery, unique shopping, ...Read More great restaurants, friendly and helpful people, shall I go on? The cost of living is low and so is crime. The weather was beautiful even though I was told it snows a few times each winter (that's what fireplaces are for!!). There are hiking trails, a lake, a river for trout fishing, golfing is close and lots and lots of arts and crafts galleries and festivals! Also has craft brewing for those who enjoy that. It's closer to Chattanooga than Atlanta, but both are close if you feel the need for a "big" city. I honestly didn't see or do anything that I didn't like while we were there. Oh, for those of us who have have "fur children" it was very pet friendly. My husband and I went to out one night and met the nicest people! They all told their stories and how they ended up in Blue Ridge and what a great place it was. We had a very enjoyable evening, it was like visiting with old friends! For my husband and I there are a few things that we are looking when we retire. A community that is friendly and accepting, good medical care, golf nearby, craft brewery's, arts and crafts as well as classes for such, low cost of living, four seasons, but not too much snow or ice and somewhere close enough to a larger city in case we want or need something unavailable to us in town. Needless to say we have put Blue Ridge on the top of the list as a possible retirement place for us. I would recommend visiting, it's well worth it. Read Less
