Wyoming: The Equality State

Nestled between the states of Idaho, Colorado, Utah, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Montana is the great state of Wyoming. Home to more than 575,000 residents, Wyoming is known for its beautiful dramatic landscapes, momentous national parks, and laidback manner of life. Many of the best places to live in Wyoming include residential communities that are perfect for anyone who wants to make a new home in the state.

Wyoming is largely made up of mountainous peaks that comprise part of the Rocky Mountains. The Big Horn, Wind River, and Owl Creek mountain ranges can also be found in Wyoming. The High Plains area located in the eastern part of the state includes vast farmlands and long stretches of barren roads. Groups of small islands can also be found within Yellowstone Lake and Jackson Lake as well as the Green River. Cheyenne, the state capital, is located in southeastern Wyoming and home to over 60,000 residents. Other major cities in Wyoming include Casper, Laramie, and Sheridan.

The diverse landscapes of Wyoming contribute to dramatic climate conditions that are experienced throughout much of the state. Many parts of Wyoming experience dry and windy conditions during the year with most rainfall occurring in the late spring and early summer. Areas that are located in higher elevations often receive more than 70 inches of snowfall a year. Temperatures in the High Plains can vary dramatically from day to night with cold and snowy conditions in the winter and hot, dry summers.

Many of the best places to live in Wyoming can be found in the state’s major cities and small towns. The city of Casper, in particular, is known to be one of the top communities in the U.S. to raise a family with housing costs that are more affordable than in other parts of the country. Other communities that rank high in the areas of livability and affordable housing include Jackson, South Park, and Ranchettes.

Despite its rather small population, a world of fun and adventure can still be found in Wyoming. Most of Yellowstone National Park sits within the state’s boundaries and attracts numerous visitors each year who come to see sites like the Grand Prismatic Spring and Old Faithful. Ideal hiking conditions and picturesque landscapes make Grand Denton National Park a top tourist attraction. A natural rock formation known as Devils Tower can be found within the Bear Lodge Mountains and is considered to be a sacred landmark among some Native Americans. A stroll through downtown Cheyenne will provide the chance to see historic landmarks like the Nagle-Warren Mansion and the Big Boy Steam Engine.
