Black Gold Capital of the South

I’ve lived in Belle Glade for several years. Most of the people living in Belle Glade are agricultural workers. The area produces sugar and various vegetables. The city has been declining in maintenance for some time and is comprised of a few elite wealthier residents with the majority being middle to low income. The people here are friendly, but city services are lacking. The best areas In Belle Glade are the newer areas generally located outside of town.

Living in Belle Glade, those who can afford to send their children to a local private school do so. The schools in the area produce excellent athletes, particularly in football. The parent organization is active and the town, with little else in the way of entertainment, supports school activities.

Many of the service and administrative people who work in the immediate area live in Wellington or Clewiston which requires a 25 to 35 mile drive each way to work. The soil is the greatest asset of the region with the “black gold” label aptly describing the richness and value. The best areas of Belle Glade are outside of the city limits.
