. It's history is long and colorful, it's people totally dedicated to local food, local shopping and a sustainable way of life. It gets a few tourist, but not so many that the town is over run. The harbor is lovely and has good support for sailing and fishing. The best lobsters on the coast are in Belfast and it is the home of Lobster Ale, a great red ale produced by Belfast Bay Brewing Co. There's a great independent theater, The Colonial still running downtown, marvelous food co-op with local seafood, meats and vegetables.
I'd say that Belfast is like a little Boulder, CO only in New England on the coast. Lovely, lovely town.
Chases Daily, a local vegetarian restaurant says it all about the flavor of Belfast. http://www.boston.com/lifestyle/food/articles/2008/09/17/from_family_farm_to_family_restaurant/
