Good area compared to most of Shelby County 4 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 18, 2020) The School district is among the top 10% of districts based on test scores. They have a proactive police dept verses the reactive policing in Memphis. Memphis is adjacent to Bartlett so commutes to restaurants or shopping is fairly quick. ...Read More Read Less

The town is in decline. There's more crime every year. All there is are a few depressing strip malls. Bartlett is the definition of urban sprawl. You need to drive for half an hour to get anywhere. The closest big box stores are in ...Read More the hood. If you want to go to a nicer store, get to ready to drive for forty minutes to an hour.

Job opportunities? Unless you fancy working in a crumbling strip mall for $7.50, you need to commute for an hour. The public schools are bad. Poor teachers and lack of authoritative administration are key issues. And of course, constant threats and fights.

It's cloudy and rainy nearly every day in the winter, and the weather can be summer-like to freezing cold the next day. The summers are boiling hot.

The people are okay but weirdly complacent/racist. Black and white.

There's very little of a healthy culture in this town. The nearest health food store is an hour away. The locals are inactive; most of them are obese. The town made a halfhearted effort of painting on some bike trails for a few central roads, but they are extremely inconsistent, no one uses them, and they are used up by drivers anyway.

And there's no nightlife, of course. What do people in this town do at night? Guess they sit on their back porch or something.

Bartlett, TN is northeast of Memphis, but much quieter. It's not fancy, but it's comfortable. Bartlett is a town of green parks and good people. For four years running, the Arbor Day Foundation h ...Read More as named Bartlett "Tree City USA."

Bartlett is close enough to Memphis for easy access to big city amenities, but separate enough to have a far lower crime rate. Bartlett has plenty of good restaurants. My kids may think Dairy Queen is the best eatery in town, but the grown-ups in the family prefer Sweetpea's Table (friendly service, home style cooking, decent sized portions). Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, LongHorn Steakhouse, and Texas Roadhouse are great for those who like steak (all have excellent food, but the service is a hair better at Texas Roadhouse). Our favorite Italian place is Milano's Pizza (casual, comfortable, and very tasty). It's next to the discount theater, so it's easy to get a filling meal before or after the movies.

Memphis attractions are close enough to get to easily, but Bartlett has attractions of its own. For those who like history, there are Davies Manor Plantation and the Nicholas Gotten House, home to the Bartlett Museum. The Bartlett Performing Arts & Conference Center (BPACC) hosts entertainers like Art Garfunkel, Kenny Loggins, Amy Grant, and Charlie Daniels, as well as local artists like the Dukes of Dixieland and the Bartlett Repertory Company. The BPACC also has art shows and conferences, as well as plays and concerts. The Bartlett Recreation Center has a swimming pool, basketball and racquetball courts, workout rooms, and a running track. Our family's favorite place is Municipal Park with its Japanese garden. Read Less
